Winning by “fanboost”

Formula E races will allow three “push to pass” turbo boosts per race – and an extra one that is determined by fans during the event. According to the Formula1blog website, this “fanboost” feature will allow spectators to advantage a driver of their choice using their mobile device.

By the half way mark of the race, the votes are tallied and the extra boost will go to the driver with the most votes. That could be huge if the racing is close and so are the points in the championship. It also means that drivers will need good fan appeal. Sure, it’s a bit cheeky but in the end, it does get the fans involved.
